Back to the Basics – The Ideal Conservation Tool

The Brillion Chisel Plow is the foundation tillage tool that brought Brillion into the primary tillage business many years ago.  The Chisel Plow is a very basic, economic implement that in many cases has the been the tool of choice due to excessive residue, rocks, and stones.  These tools started the “Conservation Tillage” movement in American agriculture.

A New Beginning

Brillion Chisel Plows were developed over 50 years ago as an alternative to the moldboard plow.  In many parts of the country, moldboard plowing was not an efficient means for primary tillage due to excessive residue, rocks and stones.  The Chisel Plow was the machine that started the age of “conservation tillage” as we know it today.

Basic, But Effective Tillage Practices

The Chisel Plow can loosen the soil, begin to manage compaction layers, and leave a good amount of residue on the soil surface all in one pass.  This helps control erosion while still being able to produce increased yields.  The ability of these machines to reach just slightly deeper in the soil profile than the moldboard plow stimulates a better growing environment for next season’s crops.

3-Bar Mounted Models

The 3-Bar Mounted Chisel Plow is available in sizes from 7 to 12 shanks, which are spaced on 12″ centers for optimum performance.  These models can be equipped with a choice of three different shank styles in both rigid or dual nested spring resets.  The heavy-duty three-point hitch allows for a short-coupled machine that pulls easily and is highly maneuverable.  Optional gauge wheels (recommended) are frame extension packages allows these machines to be tailored to fit your needs.

2-Bar Mounted Models

With its 5 and 7 shank sizes, the 2-Bar Mounted Chisel Plow fits into smaller operations and niche markets around the country.  The 2-Bar frame allows for handy maneuvering and easy pulling in the field.  The 2-Bar Mounted models are available with a choice of rigid or dual nested spring resets; gauge wheels are offered as optional equipment.
