General Repair Tips2024-02-23T08:18:14-06:00

Landoll has earned a reputation among its loyal customers for giving long-term support to its products and keeping parts and documentation available for models that are decades old.  However, given the wide variety of the company’s agricultural equipment, finding parts and information for a repair on your particular piece of equipment can be a task.  Here are some ideas that will streamline the process:

  • Learn the important identifiers for your equipment.  Each product has a model number and a serial number.  Both of these numbers are important to finding the right parts for your piece of equipment.  They will tell a well-trained parts representative when your equipment was manufactured and what options your machine has.
  • Use and carefully protect the product documentation for your equipment and know what documentation is additionally available.  Each product includes an operator’s manual that outlines safety considerations, general operating guidelines and maintenance procedures.  You can solve basic issues by spending a few minutes going over the operator’s manual.
  • Follow maintenance procedures carefully.  Taking care of your equipment goes a long way toward preventing costly repairs down the road.  Check to make sure all hardware is properly tightened and torqued to specs.  Change the oil at recommended intervals.  Grease frequently.  Use protective caps on hydraulic fittings and wipe fittings carefully before attaching hydraulics.
  • Evaluate repair approaches carefully.  If your equipment is under warranty, contact your Landoll dealer for service.  When you’re faced with something that needs repair beyond the warranty period, realistically evaluate your skills and equipment before you decide whether to tackle the repair or call the dealer.  Do you have the necessary tools and supplies?  Do you have the space available, particularly if the repair will take an extended time?  Do you have the service manual to guide you through the process?  The answer to these questions will help decide who should ultimately take on the repairs.
VT Plus and Tandem Disc Side to Side Leveling2024-02-23T08:18:40-06:00

To level your 7400 Series VT Plus or 6200 Series Tandem Disc Harrow from side to side, follow these adjustment steps:

  • Make sure your radius rod, which connects the center frame lifts, is loose.
  • The radius rod length is determined by fully retracting the lift cylinders and adjusting the radius rod until it is loose.  Then tighten jam nuts.

Field Cultivator Productivity2024-02-23T08:17:02-06:00

The “constant width” design of field cultivator sweeps helps maintain the original cutting width during the life of the sweep and provides consistent overlap for more effective tillage work.  Still, there comes a time when you will need to replace your sweeps to get the best performance from your cultivator.

  • Check your sweeps regularly to examine the wear pattern.  They should be wearing evenly.
  • The operator should be looking at the field finish behind the cultivator.  If sweeps are worn, soil boiling off that sweep and onto the shank will be poor.  Residue management will also be poor.
  • Landoll has a spilt the middle shank arrangement on all 9600 Series Field Cultivators.  This means the sweeps on the front three rows will normally wear out before the back two rows.
2511 In-Row Ripper – Get the Most Out Of Your Points2024-02-23T08:17:36-06:00

Are your points on your 2511 In-Row Ripper wearing prematurely?

Maximize the performace of your points by positioning the nose of the point approximately 1 inch below the hardpan.  The points are designed for maximum shattering of the compacted layer.

Here’s what to look for:

  • The shank or upper portion of the point showing signs of excessive wear because the point is probably positioned too far below the hardpan.
  • The bottom of the point wearing completely through is a sign that the point was positioned in the hardpad.
  • Accelerated wear on the underside of the nose of the point is also a sign that the point was positioned in the hardpan.  This could create point penetration problems.
